The XK is dead! Nothing has changed, except now we know !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! My Jalop friends, especially US Jalops, are able to cry over Jaguar “maybe” not making wagons ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ), enough that a response from Ian Callum himself needs to comes back “clarifying” that he was !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . However, when we find out that the model which has been the top Jaaag for almost 20 years and the only 2-door they offered for most of that time was dying and never being revived, we just said, “Oh, that sucks.”
I’m not going to whine over something no longer being produced, that’s stupid. It isn’t as if automakers decide to end production of a vehicle, then go out and destroy every example of said car. What I dont want to hear though is that the model will never be coming back, especially when there is plenty of room and even a need for it! A great nameplate ended without any hints of returning and we Jalops didnt even put up a fight. We didn’t bitch to one of the companies that actually listens to us!
The F-type is awesome but it is focused on being a Boxster/Cayman fighter, especially with the upcoming 4-cyl versions. The XK’s added practicality with those amputee-ready cushions behind the driver is one of the most important differences between living with a dedicated sportscar and living with an incredibly capable touring car.
Jaguar and Maserati are exotic touring brands that hit the same market with the same line up, Jaguar just goes a bit more down market at the moment (though it looks like Maserati will match). I would love to see at least two 2-door models from both brands. Porsche made the Cayenne in order to keep making 2-door sportscars. If I’m going to accept the F-Pace and Levante in the lineups and being given out to people like STDs at a frat house, I need some seriously sexy sportscars and tourers to numb the pain.

So does this mean that just the 2+2 successor is dead or that they won’t have 2 coupes in their lineup because I was looking forward to this:

I think the XK was and always was ugly. I will not miss it. The F-Type makes it look even worse.

The first gen XK was a great looking car.

Here we didn’t put up a fight. In some cases, enthusiasts ask for something and then don’t buy it when the manufacturer complies. The SS comes to mind - it will probably go away if it hasn’t already.

I’d like to see a next gen as well. I think the problem from Jag’s perspective is that there really is a lot of competition in this small market: 6-series, S-class coupe, V8 Vantage in addition to the 911 and Maser you mentioned. Yes you could get a base XK for less than those, but move up to the XKR and there is a lot of overlap. I'm thinking that they take a step back and see what the GT market does and come back when one or two of the other players get out of the market. As long as there is at least one 2-door Jag I'm ok with that.

I disagree, but you are entitled to your own opinion.

It was one of the best looking high end convertibles/coupes at the time. In the late 90s, it was that, the 911 (with Boxer headlamps) or the aging SL R129 design.

They definitely need a GT car to allow the F-type to develop as a sports car. The problem they had with the XK is that they tried to make it sporty when the chassis wasn’t really up to it.
We'll probably see a spiritual successor if the XE takes off.

I think both of the others look better. By a long shot.

I cared. At least it went out in good fashion, with the XKR-S GT.
